The project, officially opened by Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless, modernizes the building while preserving its unique architectural heritage. Originally designed by renowned Irish architect Robin Walker in the 1970s, the Arts Building reflects the modernist style of Mies van der Rohe. The refurbishment, led by RKD Architects, carefully preserved the building’s original design while implementing crucial upgrades. The project involved replacing the façade, installing energy-efficient ventilation systems, and refurbishing classrooms, offices, and common areas. The addition of a new 240-seat Student Common Room provides a vibrant space for students to connect and collaborate.

The previous single-glazed windows and lack of insulation resulted in poor energy performance.
