Trinity College Dublin is gearing up to host its 24th annual Green Week, a vibrant celebration of sustainability leadership and environmental awareness. This year’s event, running from March 9th to 13th, 2026, promises a dynamic lineup of talks, workshops, and activities designed to engage the entire Trinity community and beyond.
A Week Dedicated to Sustainability
Green Week 2026 kicks off with the inaugural Sustainability Leadership Awards on Monday, March 9th, setting the tone for a week dedicated to recognizing and fostering leadership in environmental stewardship. The week-long program features over 20 events, offering something for everyone interested in sustainability, from students and staff to the wider Dublin community.
Engaging Events and Workshops
Popular returning events include behind-the-scenes campus tours led by Biodiversity Officer Collie Ennis, providing unique insights into Trinity’s green spaces and biodiversity initiatives. For those looking to reduce waste and embrace a circular economy, the week features a free bike repair clinic, a daily swap shop, and a repair café. The repair café offers a welcoming space to enjoy a cup of tea while skilled professionals help fix small electronics and household items, promoting repair over replacement.
Trinity Catering is also joining the sustainability efforts by offering a meat-free lunch on Monday and a 10% discount on takeaway food for those who bring a reusable container, encouraging sustainable food choices and reducing single-use packaging.
Thought-Provoking Talks and Discussions
Green Week 2026 features insightful talks and panel discussions on critical sustainability topics. Vice President for Biodiversity and Climate Action Jane Stout will lead a talk on Tackling the Biodiversity Crisis, addressing the urgent need to protect and restore biodiversity. Sustainability Manager Jane Hackett is hosting a panel discussion on Climate Mis/Disinformation in the Media, featuring journalist Shane Raymond from Journal.ie and Trinity students and staff. This timely discussion will explore the challenges of navigating climate information and misinformation in today’s media landscape.
Career Development and Student Engagement
Students are a key focus of Green Week 2026. A Careers Panel will showcase a wide variety of professionals working in the sustainability sector, providing valuable insights and networking opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in this growing field. Additionally, a workshop hosted by Sustainable Travel Officer Claire Byrne will empower students to become activists for active and sustainable travel, promoting eco-friendly transportation options.
Dublin City Council will also be present in the Atrium to discuss the Grow College Green project, highlighting collaborative efforts to enhance green spaces and sustainability initiatives in the college and surrounding areas.
Get Involved and Make a Difference
Jane Hackett, Sustainability Manager, emphasizes the inclusive and impactful nature of Green Week: “Green Week can be a great way for you to start getting involved with sustainability issues. Every year we see people making connections, getting ideas and going on to become active in their own communities and studies. Show up, have a chat and you never know where it will lead!”
