TU Dublin recently hosted an inspiring evening dedicated to exploring the intersection of community and nature in Cabra. The event, titled “Resilient Cabra: Stories of People, Place, Nature and Water,” took place at East Quad in Grangegorman on Thursday, 12 February 2026. This showcase brought together short films, photographs, and projects created by TU Dublin students, highlighting the vibrant local community and ongoing environmental initiatives in the area.
The event featured a series of short films produced by TU Dublin media students. These films included interviews with members of the local community, such as those from Reilly’s Community Garden, the Cabra Men’s Shed, and the Dublin 7 Women’s Shed. The films focused on the River Bradogue, which was culverted in the 1930s, the flooding issues in the area, and the nature restoration work currently underway in Cabra. Additionally, Civil Engineering students presented an exhibition of Urban Greening projects designed for the nearby Annamoe Parade.
The showcase was organized by the local sustainability group Connecting Cabra, with support from the TU Dublin Sustainability Education team. Funding for the screening and exhibition was provided by the Grangegorman Development Agency’s (GDA) Vibrant Community Fund and Community Foundation Ireland. The event attracted around 130 attendees, including representatives from Dublin City Council, the Local Authorities Water Programme, the GDA, and various community organizations.
Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor John Stephens attended the event, joining students from the School of Media and staff from Connecting Cabra. The evening served as a platform to celebrate the resilience and creativity of the Cabra community while also highlighting the important work being done to restore and protect the local environment.
This event underscores TU Dublin’s commitment to fostering community engagement and sustainability. By bringing together students, local organizations, and residents, TU Dublin continues to play a vital role in supporting and showcasing the rich cultural and environmental heritage of Cabra.
